Aga seeks recount

MANILA, Philippines - Actor-politician Aga Muhlach is seeking a recount of the ballots from clustered precincts in the fourth district of Camarines Sur, believing he won the congressional race last May 13.

Aga’s lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, said the actor filed an electoral protest with the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) last Friday.

“We are contesting about 78 or 80 clustered precincts in seven municipalities. Maybe there are 150,000 votes involved here,” Macalintal said.

Aga ran for congressman of Camarines Sur against re-electionist Rep. Felix William Fuentebella, a member of a powerful political clan in the province.

Macalintal said Fuentebella was proclaimed as winner although close to 150,000 votes were still uncanvassed.

“The (ballots) in some clustered precincts were not yet counted when the proclamation was made.  There are some issues on the CF (compact flash) cards and malfunctioning PCOS (precinct count optical scan) machines where there are some errors,” he said.

Macalintal said the ballots in the contested municipalities should be recounted to determine the true winner.
