Bukidnon rights abuses probed

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY , Philippines – Various local and international cause-oriented groups will submit their findings on alleged human rights abuses in Bukidnon to the United Nations, the Asia Inter-Governmental Human Rights Commission and other local and international agencies.

The groups, which conducted a fact-finding mission in San Fernando, Bukidnon recently, have lambasted authorities for failing to arrest the main suspect in the killing of tribal leader and anti-mining advocate Jimmy Liguyon in San Fernando town.

“We are concerned about the fact that despite the warrant of arrest against Alde Salusad and his group Nipar (New Indigenous People’s Army for Reform) has been out, no serious operations have been made to seize him,” said Beverly Longid of the Katribu Indigenous People’s party-list in a press conference yesterday.
