Luisita beneficiaries' list to be released
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) will release a master list of Hacienda Luisita beneficiaries before the end of the month.
“We have finished the second set of interviews but we need to do a final check before we can come up with the list,” DAR Secretary Virgilo de los Reyes said, adding that it would be made public.
De los Reyes had appealed for patience to farmer-beneficiaries, saying the process of confirming their legitimacy is a tedious task.
He said they have to interview the spouses and children of around 1,000 farm workers on the original list, who have died. “We will be open to complaints from those not included and even those who were included if there is any,” he said.
The DAR began identifying, screening and validating the farmer-beneficiaries and held a massive information campaign in the 10 barangays of Hacienda Luisita on May 18.
