Long-wanted NPA guerilla collared

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Philippines – A New People’s Army guerilla, who, according to authorities, was responsible in the bloody attack on a Philippine Army detachment in the province five years ago, was already collared.

Snared at his hideout in Flora town, Apayao, Boclongan Bayubay alias Ka Buklong or Ka Leslie, from Balantoy, Balbalan town, in Kalinga was nabbed by Kalinga policemen this week for murder, multiple frustrated murder and other less serious criminal offenses.

Cordillera police director Chief Superintendent Orlando Pestaño during his command visit here met Bayubay, who is also in the Order of Battle of the military, at Camp Juan Duyan, the provincial headquarters of the Kalinga police.

Bayubay who also has a P200,000 bounty on his head, according to Pestaño, attacked the 77th Army detachment in Barangay Balantoy, Balbalano on Aug. 25, 2004 together with his comrades named by policemen as Kennedy Bangibang, Marcos Aggalao, Antonio Cagwayan, Ampoc Maggay and Maximo Duma. – Artemio Dumlao
