Local officials in Romblon against destructive mining
Local officials and residents of Romblon have banded themselves and declared a total war against destructive mining in the province, especially in the Sibuyan Island.
In a dialogue held in Magdiwang town, the local officials headed by Gov. Natalio Beltran III said they would allow open mining and artisanal or "mano-mano method but not those with the use of chemicals.
The local officials and the residents banned mining with the use of chemicals to prevent the repeat of a disaster in nearby Marinduque province years back which left a number of people dead and destroyed the environment.
The dialogue was also called to ease tension in the island province following the recent killing of San Fernando town councilor Armin Marin who is also an environmentalist. Non Alquitran
