TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur Aiming for a Guinness feat for the biggest rice cake, Tagudin town is baking its three famous delicacies during its second Tikanlu Festival tomorrow.
As part of their annual fiesta celebration on May 1-7, Tagudinians will attempt a world feat by churning out local rice cakes called tinubong, kankanen and lubi-lubi in record proportions.
Mayor Roque Verzosa Jr. said the rice cakes will be placed in huge bilaos measuring 10 meters and displayed at the town plaza for everybodys delight.
This years festival, according to Verzosa, will be more pompous and historic.
Last year, he said P104,000 was spent for the huge bilao and the ingredients for the rice cakes.
Fifty-five villagers crafted the huge bilao for four days using 100 strips of local bamboo.
For the rice cakes which 180 Tagudinians baked, 200 gantas of glutinous rice, 70,800 coconuts and 16,100 gantas of brown sugar were used. Artemio Dumlao
