Talisay City to extend help to Leyte victims

-
CEBU — Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas has asked the city council to pass an ordinance appropriating half-a-million pesos in assistance to victims of landslides in Southern Leyte.

Gullas said the P500,000 will be taken from the city’s calamity fund.

"I know it will not be enough but this is one humble way of showing to our brothers and sisters (our sympathy) panahon sa ilang kalisod (in their time of suffering)," he said.

Aside from the financial assistance, Gullas said they are setting up four drop-off points where people can donate goods and clothing to the landslide victims.

The drop-off points are at City Hall, Tabunok public market, Gaisano Tabunok and Care market in Barangay Lawaan.

Around 200 people were killed in the remote Southern Leyte towns of Liloan, San Ricardo and San Francisco after heavy rains triggered landslides and flooding last week. Freeman News Service
