LTFRB to OWTO: Get accredited before launch

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday directed a ride-sharing service firm to stop its operations as it is not accredited by the government.

“LTFRB strongly warns OWTO to cease and desist from launching their application/platform  without coordinating with the agency first as those that will be operating will be considered colorum,” the LTFRB said in an advisory.

The LTFRB made the statement after it received information OWTO is set to hold a press conference at Amo Gastropub in Barangay South Triangle tomorrow.

The agency also warned the people behind OWTO authorities will take legal action if they will not heed the order.

Meanwhile, Makati Mayor Abby Binay said yesterday she has ordered a crackdown on drivers of motorcycle ride-hailing app Angkas following  reports that it has resumed its operation a month after it was shut down by the LTFRB.

Binay said she ordered the Public Safety Department to run after Angkas motorcycle drivers.

She also urged residents not to patronize Angkas since “they not only clog up traffic but also put the lives of commuters in danger.”

Binay said Angkas drivers may be fined P5,000 and jailed for as long as three days for violating Ordinance 2009-008, which bans “habal-habal” operations in the city.

The city government will impound the motorcycle of those found to have committed a second offense.
