Woman dies, 6 others hurt in road mishaps

MANILA, Philippines — An elderly woman died after she fell from a motorcycle and was run over by a passenger bus in Quezon City on Tuesday.

Angelita Galan, 62, of Caloocan City, died at the scene.

Galan’s husband, Domingo, 60, was injured. He was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Reports said that the couple was on a motorcycle along Barangay North Fairview when the vehicle crashed at around 11:15 p.m.

Galan fell off the motorcycle and was hit by a bus bound for San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan.

Bus driver Levy Jhin Manalo, 30, turned himself in to police after the accident.

Five others were injured when an Isuzu truck collided with a Honda Jazz car along Broadway Avenue in Barangay Mariana, Quezon City yesterday morning.

They were truck driver Rogero Omas-as, 47, and his companions Froilan Paclibary, 21, and Dioricio Abasola, 64; Jemina Chan, 43, and her 17-year-old relative.

Police said the truck was traversing Aurora Boulevard when it rammed the car driven by Chan on the opposite direction.

Rescuers brought the victims to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.
