CHR alarmed over PNP spot report ban

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has expressed concern over the reported move of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to prohibit media access to spot reports.

Commissioner Gwen Pimentel-Gana said they received information that the PNP prohibition was also being enforced on human rights advocates. She said the PNP move went against a recent pronouncement by President Duterte that there should be media presence during police raids.

“Now, why are they suddenly doing this?” Gana said. “What are they hiding?”
