MANILA, Philippines –  An Indian businessman was rescued yesterday from six persons who kidnapped him on June 18.

Chaman Lal was snatched while tending to his lending business in Barangay Bulihan in Cavite. He was held captive in a house in Metro Green Village in Novaliches, Quezon City for 10 days until National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents rescued him.

Agents arrested four Indians and two Filipinos in connection with Lal’s kidnap: alleged mastermind Rakesh Kumar, 31; Ashwani Kumar, 59; Shiv Chauhan, 22; Matwinder Singh, 33; Albino Pique Pusos, 24, and John William Samson Lucero, 22.

Two other suspects – Ailene Alarcio, 22, and Ferdie Marvin – are not yet in NBI custody. Alarcio is in a hospital after giving birth to Rakesh’s child while Marvin remains at large.

The NBI said Pusos and Lucero tortured the businessman and told him he will be killed if they do not get P30 million as ransom.

Agents recovered a dog leash used to restrain Lal, a handkerchief used as a blindfold, a .45 caliber pistol, several motorcycles, helmets, jackets and two vehicles from the house.

The NBI said Lal’s daughter, who is in her 20s, was kidnapped two years ago. She was reportedly so traumatized she was sent home to India to recover.
