Korean arrested for beating up girlfriend

MANILA, Philippines – A Korean man was arrested for allegedly beating up his girlfriend in his condominium unit in Manila when she could not give him money for his gambling habit.

Jang Se Young, 32, was charged with physical injuries in relation to violating Republic Act 9262, the law penalizing violence against women and their children, by his 27-year-old girlfriend.

In her complaint, the girlfriend said Jang arrived in his unit at around 6 a.m., woke her up, then asked her for money “because he was going back to the casino.”

She told The STAR Jang started hitting her when she informed him she did not have enough money.

The complainant, who manages a coffee shop along Taft Avenue, said Jang told her he produces movies and television shows in Korea. She said he had been very generous to her until he got hooked on gambling.
