Lack of buses strands passengers at Cubao terminal

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Hundreds of passengers were cooling their heels at the Araneta Bus Terminal in Cubao, Quezon City yesterday morning because only a few provincial buses had special permits to operate.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Winston Ginez said that an insufficient number of provincial buses stranded some passengers at the bus terminal.

“There were not enough buses so passengers who confirmed their booking are forced to wait,” Ginez said.

He added that a sufficient number of provincial buses will operate tomorrow as the special permit given to them will take effect.

Ginez said that the LTFRB has approved 301 out of 372 applicants for special bus permits and an additional 655 units with special permits will be allowed to operate during the holidays, with another 178 waiting approval.

Meanwhile, the LTFRB reminded all jeepney and bus operators to strictly comply with a memorandum circular requiring all of their units to clearly display markings by yearend, otherwise they will be penalized.
