Prosecutors buck Revilla plea

MANILA, Philippines - Government prosecutors asked the Sandiganbayan yesterday to deny the request of detained Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. to attend his daughter’s high school graduation tomorrow at the De La Salle Zobel School in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa.

Ombudsman lawyers said Revilla, who is on trial for plunder in connection with the pork barrel scam, should not be given special treatment.

The senator had earlier filed a motion asking the anti-graft court’s First Division for a five-hour furlough to be with his daughter, Ma. Franzel Loudette Bautista, during her graduation.

Sandiganbayan magistrates are expected to issue a ruling on Revilla’s request today.

Last week, the court allowed Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who is also detained on plunder and graft raps, to attend his son’s graduation in San Juan.
