Parañaque bets’ supporters figure in fistfight

MANILA, Philippines - Two supporters of candidates for chairman of Barangay BF Homes in Parañaque City, the country’s largest subdivision, were arrested after engaging in a fistfight in a polling precinct last Monday.

Dionilo dela Cruz is a supporter of re-electionist chairman Jeremy Marquez while Minalang Ganda supports Marquez’s rival, Richard Padilla, city police chief Senior Superintendent Ariel Andrade said yesterday.

The two were apprehended at around 2 p.m. Monday after they exchanged blows while the voting was going on in a precinct in BF Homes Phase 2.

“Charges were filed against the suspects,” Andrade said.

Marquez, son of actor and former mayor Joey Marquez, won by more than 6,000 votes against Padilla, a member of the Padilla clan of performers and actors.

Andrade said no other untoward incident was reported in Parañaque.
