MANILA, Philippines - Alleged members of the “Acetylene Gang” broke into a pawnshop in Valenzuela City at dawn yesterday.

City police commander Senior Superintendent Roderick Armamento said at least four suspects bore a hole into the back wall of Cebuana Lhuillier along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Dalandanan.

Armamento said the pawnshop’s management has yet to determine the amount of jewelry taken by the suspects.

Armamento said the suspects were able to enter the pawnshop after they rented a commercial space beside it last week.

He said the burglars were believed to be members of the “Joni Acetelyne Gang.”

Police said a certain Arthur Dayupen paid the owner of MML building a check amounting to P24,000 on Jan. 23.

“Dayupen rented the building supposedly for a billiard and shoe repair center,” police said.

Armamento said the group left behind the equipment they used in the burglary.

Police also found a bolt cutter inside the pawnshop.

The suspects tried but failed to open the pawnshop’s vault.
