Puno orders local officials to support DOT job fair

MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno ordered mayors and governors to support the tourism jobs fair dubbed as “Trabaho sa Turismo” of the Department of Tourism (DOT) as part of the government’s effort to address the unemployment problem in the country.

Puno sent a memorandum to mayors, governors and other local government officials nationwide to support the job fair.

The DOT’s Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation (PCVC) said the job fair would be held on May 22-23, 2009 at the SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Puno urged the mayors and governors to help promote the program by directing their constituents to avail themselves of the opportunity.

He said applicants in the provinces who cannot attend the fair might log on to www.jobsdb.com.ph. The website features job opportunities for all types of applicants for accounting, administration/secretarial, advertising, banking and finance; building / architectural; business analysis; business development and call center.

Other features are civil services; customer service; design; education; engineering; fresh graduate; general management and hotel and tourism.

There are also job opportunities for health and beauty; human resources; information technology; insurance; legal; logistics; manufacturing and marketing. There also media; medical/pharmaceutical; merchandising; order processing & operation; property/real estate; public relations; and purchasing /procurement. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
