BI deports 5 aliens

- Edu Punay -
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported in the past week five foreigners who were earlier arrested for various violations of Philippine immigration laws, it was learned yesterday.

Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. said all five aliens were sent back to their respective countries pursuant to deportation orders issued by the bureau’s Board of Commissioners.

Fernandez said the deportees — a German, an American, a Belgian and two Indians — were also placed in the bureau’s blacklist and are now banned from re-entering the country. The BI chief identified the foreigners as Andres Claus Miller, Luc Van Hecke, William Donnel Ryan, Chinnasamy Thangavel and Rana.

Except for the American and Indian nationals, all three aliens were fugitives in their respective homelands and had been arrested in separate operations of the BI and National Bureau of Investigation.

Miller, a German national, who has been wanted in Frankfurt for large-scale fraud charges involving over 18 million euros, was deported last Jan. 23. He was arrested in Palawan in Nov. 27 last year. Van Hecke, on the other hand, was deported to Belgium where he was sentenced by a court to seven years imprisonment for cases of sexual exploitation of children, child pornography and rape.

The other three aliens were all deported last Jan. 25. American Ryan was an ex-convict who was paroled after serving his sentence at the New Bilibid Prisons for gun possession.

The two Indian nationals were deported for being overstaying and undocumented aliens.
