Some 100 families were left homeless after a seven-hour fire hit a residential area in Makati City last Friday night.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Sammy Guzman, arson investigator, said the blaze started at around 7:35 p.m. inside the house of a certain Felicidad Corral located at the corner of Bautista corner Durango streets in Barangay Palanan.
He said the flames quickly spread to neighboring houses. No one was hurt in the incident.
Guzman said Corrals 22-year-old son Alvin was watching television when he saw the ceiling of their house in flames.
He said it was possible that the electrical connection in the house suffered a short-circuit since Corrals neighbors, who are all relatives, were using the same line.
The fire, which reached the fifth alarm, was contained at around 2:36 a.m.
In Pasay City, fire struck an apartment building early yesterday.
Inspector Leo Andiso of the Pasay Fire Department said the blaze started at around 4:05 a.m.
Five apartment units located at the corner of Dominga street and Buendia Avenue were gutted in the blaze, which reached the fourth alarm.
No one was hurt in the incident. Firefighters declared a fire out at around 5:45 a.m.
Andiso said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
