4 dead, 15 hurt in road mishap

- Edu Punay -
Four people were killed while 15 others were hurt in a vehicular accident on President Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard (PDMB) in Parañaque City yesterday morning.

Investigator SPO2 Orlando De Leon said the driver of a Panda Transit passenger bus (NXF-118) traveling on the southbound lane lost control of the wheel after the vehicle developed mechanical problems.

The bus went over the center island into the opposite lane then hit a sports utility vehicle before smashing into a van loaded with passengers at around 6:40 a.m.

The driver of a green Hyundai Grace van (WSN-475), William Tamang, 47, of Bacoor, Cavite, and his front seat passenger, Danilo Vileta, 54, of Imus, Cavite, were declared dead on the spot. Two other passengers of the van, identified as Ernesto Ocampo, 44, of Pasay City and Glen Huerto, of Imus, died while undergoing treatment at the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City.

Eleven other passengers of the van and six passengers of the bus sustained slight injuries after the incident.

Five of them were rushed to the San Juan De Dios Hospital while the rest were taken to the Ospital ng Maynila.

Among those hurt was three-year-old Arnie Salada, a passenger of the bus who sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Suzuki Vitara (UKC-776), Feliciano Roxas, of Bacoor, Cavite, escaped without injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that the driver of the bus, identified as Iluminado Genoguin, attempted to regain control on the opposite lane but couldn’t avoid the Vitara.

The wayward bus then collided head on with the van, according to De Leon. The van’s driver and the passenger beside him was pinned by the wreckage.

De Leon added that the bus was on its way to Cavite City and most of its passengers were sleeping at the time of the incident.

Operatives of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) responded to the emergency to assist rescuers and control the traffic jam caused by the accident.

Only two lanes of the road were passable during the rescue operation before the vehicles involved were towed by MMDA trucks.
