Another Chinoy trader shot dead

Another Filipino-Chinese businessman was shot dead allegedly by a soldier inside his car yesterday afternoon in Quezon City – two days after another trader was ambushed.

Victim Ernesto Cheng-Vergara, who owns a motor equipment business, a resident of 1555 Areneta Avenue, sustained bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

The suspect, wearing an Army uniform, fled after the shooting. Witnesses said he went towards the direction of SM City on North Avenue. Reports showed that the incident took place at about 2:45 p.m. at the corner of North and Mindanao Avenues right in front of a burger chain outlet.

Vergara was driving a Toyota Prado and was about to come to a full stop at a stop light when a gunman suddenly appeared and without warning, fired several shots at the victim.

Vergara slumped at the wheel as his vehicle crashed into an L-300 van which then smashed into a green Mitsubishi Pajero and a blue Nissan van.

Operatives of the Central Police District are now conducting follow-up investigations.

This is the second ambush of a Filipino-Chinese trader in two days.

Victim Gabaldon, 32, was shot dead by two armed men the other day inside his car, He was with his wife in front of St. Michael School in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City.

Gabaldon had just dropped off his daughter at the school when the two gunmen approached his car and shot him repeatedly. Sources said Gabaldon was killed over an inheritance feud with certain relatives. Matthew Estabillo
