Rape suspect, illegal gambler fall

CEBU, Philippines - A 46-year-old security guard, who is a rape suspect of a minor girl, was arrested by the police Tuesday afternoon in Sitio Kilawan, Barangay Tanke, Talisay City.

Inspector Rodgene Fudotan with PO3 Bernito Rio and PO2 Ryan Ofngol served the warrant of arrest (WOA) issued against the suspect by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Olegario Sarmiento, Jr.

Rio told The Freeman yesterday that the incident happened last July 1, 2009 in Barangay Tanke where the victim was the 6-year-old niece of the suspect's wife.

According to Rio, after the incident, the suspect left their place and went to Ozamis in Mindanao and returned home last December 2013.

Yesterday past 2 p.m. the suspect was transferred to Talisay City Jail in Barangay Maghaway from a Talisay City detention cell after the city fiscal's officer issued commitment order for the suspect.

Meanwhile, a 58-year-old woman, who was allegedly involved in illegal numbers game, was arrested by the police Monday evening in Barangay Tabunok, still in Talisay City.

The suspect, identified as Priscilla Raga a.k.a "Nanay" and a resident of the place, was arrested by SPO1 Edgar Causon, SPO1 Isaias Cabuenas, SPO1 Benjamin Sebellita, PO3 Benedicto Lasque, PO3 Rey Bucao, PO3 Ferdinand Pablo and PO2 Esmer Gahi.

Raga, who was informed by the police her constitutional right during arrest, was allegedly violating Republic Act 9287 against "illegal numbers game."

The police confiscated from Raga's possession a stub booklet with carbon paper containing the combination of numbers, two tip sheets, two ball pens and P90 in alleged cash proceeds from the illegal numbers game.

The bettors scampered away and eluded arrest after they noticed of the police's arrival.

Yesterday morning, the police filed violation of R.A. 9287 against Raga before the City Prosecutors Office. The suspect is being detained in Talisay City detention cell. — (FREEMAN)
