CEBU, Philippines - A man, believed to have been a victim of summary execution, was found dead, his body placed in a sack and abandoned about 150 meters from his house in barangay Tag-ubi, Compostela town early morning yesterday.
Nathaniel Lato, 32, alleged to be mentally deranged, succumbed to four gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Aside from the gunshot wounds, a cut on his neck was also found.
Lato was last seen by neighbors Sunday evening eating his dinner inside his shanty.
PO2 Arnie Goc-ong, homicide investigator, said another neighbor heard four bursts of gunfire at midnight but did not investigate.
The neighbor even heard Lato shouting “Inyo pa gyud kong tiwasan?”
At around 7:00 in the morning his neighbors found him dead.
Goc-ong suspected there were two to three assailants who entered Lato’s house and killed him.
Police recovered four slugs of caliber a .38 revolver in the scene.
Police have yet to establish the identities of the gunmen.
“Wa ni kontra posible naay nayawyawan nga sakit unya wa kahibalo nga naa ni problema sa pangutok,” Goc-ong said.
