MANILA, Philippines - Let’s retire that proclamation “The ’80s are back” because, really, that decade has been occupying some new millenium real estate for a while. And like an immigrant that has found new ground to flourish on, it’s bringing in iconic brands from its time to the present.
After Puma’s acquisition of shoe brand Tretorn in 2001, the Trets — that was the cool way to call them — are back on the scene with a 2010 collection that takes inspiration from the brand’s Scandinavian roots and presents updated versions of the classic tennis and boating shoes that Tretorn has been known for. The Reva Nylon revives the iconic ’80s jogging shoe with its vintage look and feel, made with sheer, iridescent nylon fabric that allows for breathability and comfort. The Skymra Marina features a bold navy upper with the classic crayfish embroidered in core webbing across the the top, giving a fun spin to an otherwise outdoorsy shoe. Tretorn’s iconic rubber boot grows up with the Skerry Reslig, a taller version of the original that provides more protection below the knee. The Rodlera Nylon is a men’s tennis shoe that takes inspiration from the Silver Wing, with its rich leather details and soft suede overlays. The mid-cut Krona Mid is rooted deeply in Tretorn’s boating heritage, designed with a soft suede upper and a pop of color on the heel. As for the Skymra Poplin, its lightweight poplin fabric, made interesting with bold color contrast stitching, makes for easy walking.
