Socio-civic leader Louie Ablaza, one of the moving forces behind the country’s jewelers’ association, recently threw a Balinese-themed birthday bash.

The posh Ablaza mansion was alive with rich colors. It was expertly transformed into an exotic setting by Louie’s son, Jun Jun, who added a contemporary Asian touch with exotic lanterns.

Louie’s charming wife Mellie was a sight to behold with her coiffure and headdress framing her face. Looking like a doll, Mellie drew a great deal of attention and compliments for her gorgeous beige costume which was from the renowned Wayang Golek, Indonesia’s popular puppet theater character ensemble.

Guests were treated to a buffet of exquisite Indon cuisine. The banquet table was decorated with long- stemmed flowers. A special Indonesian thanksgiving ritualistic dance dedicated to the celebrator was performed by a dusky Indonesian lass studying in the country.

Ambassador and Mrs. Theo Arnold; Ambassador and Mrs. Enrique Syquia; Ambassador and Mrs. S.K. Uppal; Ambassador and Mrs. Domingo Siazon; and Alice Buckley were among the guests.

To Louie, here’s to your health, happiness and good luck in the years to come! Happy birthday, Louie!
Sheila Romero’s big day
Sheila Romero, the tall, pretty and astute CEO/chairman of Azzurro Bistro and Wine Bar, that upscale dining venue renowned for the best Mediterranean cuisine, was given a surprise birthday party by loving husband Mikee Romero.

The chic and hip crowd – as expected – came to surprise the woman behind the success of Azzurro Bistro at G4, Glorietta, Azzurro Too! Deli-Bar in the modish Megastrip in Megamall.

Family members and an ever-growing circle of friends enjoyed an evening highlighted, naturally, by the exquisite array that has made Azzurro one of today’s leading dining spots.

Azzurro’s Chef Patron Philip John Goulding prepared an exquisite fare that began with tuna, salmon and mushroom bruschettas, followed by asparagus and fresh spinach soup, smoked duck salad. The entrée was glorious paella with Blue Marlin, capped by delicious desserts created by Chef Buddy Trinidad.

The evening winded down to much bonhomie and well-wishes for a woman who remains the driving force behind the twin successes of Azzurro Bistro and Wine Bar and Ortigas’ latest center of the chic and hip, Azzurro Too! Bistro Deli-Bar.

Azzurro Too! Bistro Deli-Bar has already generated excitement as the new center of the party scene in Ortigas’ promising night life.

Cheers and happy birthday to a successful and remarkable young entrepreneur!
