WATCH: Gretchen Ho reacts to MMDA’s driver-only car ban on EDSA

MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya host Gretchen Ho gives her perspective on the recent driver-only car ban on EDSA during rush hour.

In a recent interview with Philstar.com, the ABS-CBN sports and lifestyle correspondent said she is willing to sacrifice a bit if the proposed measure will lessen the traffic woes in Metro Manila.

“Para sa akin, I don’t mind sacrificing a bit kung makakatulong talaga. So kailangan din nating i-prove na nakatulong talaga siya sa traffic. Kung makatulong talaga siya and then I’m up for it, pero kung hindi, sa tingin ko ibalik nalang natin para hindi na ma-lonely ‘yung mga single,” Gretchen enthused.

She admitted that the rule will create hassle to people, but she understands that the government is so desperate to cure Metro Manila’s traffic woes, so they are trying to experiment on different things.

“Actually nakakatawa talaga yan e kasi yung mga single na katulad ko parang, ‘Ha? Talaga? Single na nga ko sa buhay, single pa ko ba-biyahe’ ang ibig kung sabihin, huhulihin pa ako kung single ako babiyahe. Para sa akin maganda rin na incentive to other people with you, kaso medyo hassle kasi kailangan mo pang manghila ng tao,” she said.

Gretchen joked about the driver-only car ban as she asked to take a selfie with fellow "single ladies" and OPPO F9 ambassadors Glaiza de Castro and Sanya Lopez to test the new phone's features such as Artificial Intelligence-enhanced dual rear cameras.

Actresses Solenn Heussaff and Saab Magalona also aired their disappointments on the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) expanded High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) scheme on EDSA.

“The one person car rule is so dangerous: either the person driver will get mugged OR person in car can kidnap or abuse person to ride.  SERIOUSLY!!! what is happening here! Ugh!!!!” Solenn wrote.

She added in another post the things the government needs to do instead of the HOV.

“Things they could do: Proper transport Add trains for MRT Educate bus/jeepney drivers Educate on trash so nothing get clogged ETC!!!!!!!” she wrote.

For Saab, it is more acceptable to create a designated single-passenger lane.

“This is some elitist bullshit. At least make a designated single-passenger lane? OR ASA BA? EH YUNG BUSES NGA DI SUMUSUNOD SA RULES ANG LAKI LAKI NA NYAN HINDI NYO PA MAKITA YUNG MALING GINAGAWA NILA,” Saab wrote.

“You know who won’t be affected by this? Politicians with several cars and drivers. Are you a parent who drives your kids to school bec they might die if they take our shitty public transit? SORRY, YOU CAN’T TAKE EDSA AFTER YOU DROP THEM OFF!!! HAHHA!!!,” she wrote in another post. — Video by Kat Leandicho
