The Carlos P. Romulo Foundation (CPR Foundation), led by its tireless chairman, Ambassador Roberto Romulo, hosted a farewell dinner in honor of the departing Ambassador of the United States Sung Y. Kim.

Held at the Romulo Café in Makati City, the event was an opportunity to honor the outgoing ambassador, who was recently conferred the Order of Sikatuna, with the rank of Datu — a decoration bestowed on departing ambassadors if the president considers the tenure of the ambassador beneficial to bilateral relations.

President Rodrigo Duterte deemed it an appropriate recognition for Ambassador Sung, who has always been supportive of the Philippines. In his remarks, Ambassador Romulo said of the American ambassador, “Ambassador Kim’s demeanor highlights his understanding of the Filipino psyche, and especially of our leader… whoever replaces (him) will have very big shoes to fill.”

Bon voyage and thank you for your hard work, Ambassador Kim! There are no goodbyes, only “See you soon.”
