Philippine art sale at Salcedo Auctions today

MANILA, Philippines - Salcedo Auctions announces its sale of “Important Philippine Art” today, 2 p.m. at Three Salcedo Place, 121 Tordesillas Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City.

The curated collection showcases the pride and confidence of a sophisticated and globally-connected culture through oil on canvas paintings, original drawings, fine prints, and sculptures by late 19th Century and modern Philippine masters as well as leading lights in the contemporary art scene.

Among the lots to go under the hammer are “Viento Sobre Viento” (Wind over Wind), a 1964 tour-de-force masterpiece by Federico Aguilar Alcuaz; and “Paris at Night,” a superb 1956 oil on board by Nena Saguil with impeccable provenance, having been exhibited in the artist’s landmark.

Contemporary Philippine art is also available in this auction.

Among the highlights: Alfredo Esquillo’s award-winning triptych, “Ritwal,” a high point in the history of Philippine art having won the Philippine Art Awards and the grand prize in the regional ASEAN Art Awards in 1999; and “Conversations,” an impressive John Santos also from?2005 showcasing the artist’s themes of identity and the passage of time.
