MANILA, Philippines - McDonald’s biggest breakfast activation – National Breakfast Day – proved to be a groundbreaking success as 5,000 stores across Asia, Middle East and South Africa joined together to serve 5 million free McMuffins last March 18.

McDonald’s Philippines opened almost 300 breakfast stores nationwide at 5:00 a.m. for the National Breakfast Day. For each participating store, the first 1000 customers via dine-in, take-out or drive-thru were treated to free McMuffins which were made from fresh ingredients, prepared and served with a smile by the store crew.

As early as 4:00 a.m., dozens of customers excitedly started lining up with their families and friends to receive their free breakfast treat.

Netizens, including popular celebrities, gamely posted pictures and positive feedback on the event through the official hashtag, #nationalbreakfastday – which registered as the country’s #1 trending topic on Twitter in the morning of March 18.

McDonald’s Philippines President and CEO Kenneth Yang was joined by McDonald’s APMEA President Dave Hoffmann as they ceremoniouisly served a McMuffin to the first National Breakfast Day customer in McDonald’s store in Greenhills, san Juan City.

“This was a momentous event for McDonald’s not only in the Philippines but for the whole region. We were very happy to see hundreds of thousands of Filipino customers arrive bright and early in our stores to celebrate National Breakfast Day with us. We hope that with this event, we have helped motivate more people to start their day right with a positive energy and delicious breakfast at McDonald’s,” Yang said.

Being the most important meal of the day, McDonald’s is dedicated in serving breakfast meals that are tasty, filling and convenient. The iconic Egg McMuffin is widely enjoyed all over the world because it is made with a freshly cracked Grade A egg, lightly grilled Canadian bacon and melty American-style cheese sandwiched between warm perfectly toasted English Muffins, and highly convenient to eat even for customers who are on-the-go.
