Arthritis sufferers display their artistic side

MANILA, Philippines - People Empowerment for Arthritis and Lupus (PEARL) is a dynamic group of impassioned healthcare professionals, patients, as well as caregivers that advocate for people who suffer from systemic lupus erythematosus and chronic debilitating arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. The group aims to empower these patients through arthritis and lupus clinics, regular lay forums, mini-lectures, and support group workshops and activities. The “Living Well” Workshops provide a venue where patients and caregivers share their experiences with their illness. PEARL forums showcase the talents and creativity of patients, while a dedicated Indigence Fund provides assistance for the medical needs of financially challenged patients.

As part of its mission, PEARL recently held “Pearl! Musicale and Art Exhibit,” a special art and variety show by patients with arthritis and lupus. Last March 14 and 15, paintings and artworks painstakingly done by patients were exhibted at the Glorietta Mall in Makati City. A show also featured performances from patients while a healing Mass capped the two-day affair.
