Smarter living at Samsung Southeast Asia Forum 2016

Samsung AddWash Washing Machine: Saves time with a quicker wash and an extra access door.

MANILA, Philippines - At the Samsung Southeast Asia Forum 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the focus was on enhancing modern life. The brand’s latest products combined established technologies with new innovations for today’s necessities, all allowing for better efficiency, whether it’s with home appliances or mobile devices like the Galaxy TabPro S which functions like a laptop with the portability of a tablet, a multi-tasker’s dream.

Be it unwinding with a movie on NetFlix with the KS9000 SUHD TV after a long day, lessening the frequency of grocery shopping thanks to the RT7000 Twin Cooling refrigerator’s freshness preservation features, or spending less time doing the laundry with the AddWash washing machine, from a user’s perspective, the goal of Samsung’s latest releases is to help you enjoy more of life. These devices will make their way to the Philippines in the coming year.

Productivity On The Go

First in the lineup is The Galaxy TabPro S which runs on Intel Core M processor with Microsoft Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro operating system for business use and supports LTE Cat 6 for the fastest connection – all in 6.3 millimeters, weighing only 693 grams, including its full-sized keyboard-cum-cover.

Its 12-inch Super AMOLED display for Windows is the first in the market, displaying true-to-life colors and contrast with precise details. Its multi-touch screen makes it ideal for gaming, too.

The keyboard and tablet come with a flexible hinge for dual-angle viewing. The keyboard and touchpad connect to the tab with a pogo pin, eliminating the need for pairing or charging separately. A multi-port adapter (HDMI, USB Type A and C) and Bluetooth pen are sold separately.

It is fanless and allows for only 4.5W of power consumption for less noise disruption. You can use it for up to 10.5 hours and then fully charge it again in just 2.5 hours.

In wearable tech, the Gear S2 now comes encased in 18K rose gold with an ivory genuine leather band or in Platinum with a black genuine leather band, making it easier to integrate into one’s wardrobe. Samsung partnered with Colombo for premium watch straps, while watch face options include Peanuts characters, artwork by Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jeremyville and Burton Morris.

By collaborating with Uber, ESPN and CNN, as well as tapping into more health-tracking capabilities, the S2 is a veritable enhancement to daily life.

iOS compatibility is slated for later this year.

Samsung also announced that mobile payment service Samsung Pay is coming to Southeast Asia and Oceania this year, starting with Singapore and Australia.

Sharper, Smarter Entertainment

A lineup of SUHD TVs feature the world’s only cadmium-free, 10-bit Quantum dot display Quantum dot display, the world’s first bezel-less curved design which is beautiful from every angle – or any lighting environment you’re in. Premium high dynamic range (HDR) 1,000 nit HDR minimum gives a higher level of contrast between light and dark images. New Ultra Black technology also significantly reduces light reflection with minimal glare.

Powered by the Tizen operating system, the Smart TVs make it easier to discover and access content and services, from cable TV to downloaded content or via NetFlix or YouTube to apps, as well as the video-on-demand service Samsung TV Plus – all with the New Smart Hub.

Use it with Smart Control, a universal entertainment system remote that lets you control external devices like game consoles, cable boxes, home theatre systems and the TV itself – all in one device.

The company also unveiled its first Ultra HD Blu-ray Player, the UBD-K8500, which is HDR compatible and offers four times the resolution and 64 times detailed color expression of a conventional Blu-ray player.

Go, Speed Cleaner

Doing the laundry becomes a breeze with the AddWash washing machine, getting its name from its access door that allows you to add any item like forgotten laundry, hand-washed items for rinsing, or additional softener without having to drain the washer in order to open the main washer door mid-cycle.

It also comes with a SuperSpeed feature which completes a normal wash in less than an hour without compromising washing performance. Even better, when connected to wi-fi, you can start your wash and monitor it from your mobile device, even when you’re not home yet.

Fresher Food

The RT7000 is a top-mounted freezer refrigerator that maintains a humidity level of up to 70 percent throughout the fridge, so that food stays fresh no matter where it is stored. With Twin Cooling Plus technology, two independent evaporators create two separate airflows in the fridge and freezer, thereby preventing unpleasant smells — as well as unsavoury flavours — from food moving between the fridge and freezer and permeating its contents.

It also comes with five conversion modes: Freezer-Fridge, Energy Saving, Vacation, Fridge Max, and Mini mode, so whether you don’t really need to use the whole fridge or are about to go on vacation, you only use the energy you really need.

Recognizing that no part of a home gathers the household more than the refrigerator, Samsung unveiled the aptly named Family Hub, a multi-tasking refrigerator with Android functionality. It won’t be available in the Philippines soon, but it’s a promising example of things to come for the Samsung Home.

It stands out with a 21.5 inch full HD touch screen on the upper right exterior door. It can display shared calendar updates, photos, or leave notes that’s as easy as doing it on your smartphone or tablet. Never miss a game or program by mirroring whatever’s playing on your Samsung Smart TV or stream music to its Bluetooth speakers for some background music.

On top of all this, it features three high-quality cameras inside the fridge to capture an image every time the door closes. These images can be accessed on your synced smartphone, like a visual grocery list. Connectivity, convenience and ease — it’s just the way of the future.
