SM celebrated the life and works of some of the country’s most fascinating visual artists during the recent “My City, My SM, My Art Book” exhibit at The Block in SM City North EDSA.

The exhibit featured pages from the book, a compilation of a fantastic exhibit called “My City, My SM, My Art,” a campaign highlighting the best of Philippine visual arts:  painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and filmmaking.

During its three-year cultural journey from 2016 to 2019, featured masters, modernists and millennials went in a roadshow around the SM Supermalls as far north as the Cordilleras and as far south as General Santos.

During the exhibit, mallgoers had a rare glimpse of the book at the My Art house, which is inspired by Luzon’s bahay na bato. The larger-than-life book pages showcased one of the best-known and best-loved artists of our time, Mauro Malang Santos, as well as his sons Soler and Stevesantos, and grandchildren Isabel, Mik and Luis, who were featured in the My Art stop at SM City North EDSA in January 2018.

The exhibit also featured a capsule collection from Art Ventures and Advocacy Network (ARTVAN), an organization of Quezon City artists that aims to promote the arts as a vehicle for holistic development, healing and advocacy, palanggas.

Members of the Santos family — established artist and gallerist Soler Santos and daughter Isabel — graced the opening of the exhibit, together with ARTVAN artists Sinag de Leon and Jahzel Alcala Mangalindan-Gonzales, and ArtisteSpace managing director Anton Magpantay, who were all welcomed by SM AVP for Operations Jocelyn Lapid-Clarino, AVP for Marketing Jay Aranas, and SM Senior VP Marketing for operations, workaholic Millie Dizon.

This exhibit is the latest edition in the “My City, My SM” series, which celebrates the beauty, culture, traditions and great people in cities around the Philippines where SM has malls. This super exhibit comes after “My City, My SM, My Cuisine,” which highlighted tourism and featured heirloom recipes from prominent families around the country, and “My Crafts,” a celebration of traditional arts and modern Philippine design.

Check it out at an SM mall nearest you when you can. It’s worth your time, believe me.
