MANILA, Philippines - Unconventional, fun and truly original, accessories brand Italia Independent’s partnership with Adidas is a complementary one. Eccentric entrepreneur Lapo Elkann dug his way through Adidas’ vast archive, as well as his own, to take inspiration for two ZX Flux packs: the Italia Independent print pack and the Italia Independent NPS pack.
Not afraid to experiment, the print pack is the bolder of the two. Four shoes are represented, as the Italian brand plays with the integration of iconic patterns to create brand-new ones. Animal print merges with the rave-inspired rainbow upper, pulled together with a bright pink heel cage and midsole; an eye-catching zebra print pays homage to Lapo’s heritage with Italian flag colors used on the 3-Stripes mark, reordered for an extra twist; and classic camo colors are presented in a dog’s tooth pattern in two color-ways, khaki tonals, and blue and black. The satin-like upper on each shoe enhances the prints, while the TPU 3-Stripes mark and translucent outer-sole bring a technical feel.
The second pack is more subdued, but detail is just as important for the ZX Flux Italia Independent NPS pack. Coming in two color-ways of navy and gray, the upper is made from a ballistic-woven fabric, inspired by carbon fiber commonly used in luxury cars, yachts and aircraft. The fitted neoprene sock-liner features some of Italia Independent’s prints in subtle tones, again using the camouflage and dog’s tooth pattern. A translucent sole exposes more of the pattern and showcases Adidas’ Torsion technology, while the heel cage is delivered in a unique execution using Alutex, echoing the distinctive weave of the upper.
