Rem Divino is a woman’s dream designer. This Dubai-trained couturier has continued to hone his craft year after year, introducing new techniques to the industry.
Last year saw Divino working on lamination — fusing hand-cut designs on satin material. This year, Divino has created a collection that incorporates hand-cut dentelle lace patterns with illusion tulle. The combination of the two elements creates the image of suspended and cascading leaves on what appears to be bare necklines and shoulders.
This columnist has worked closely with Divino for 10 years and in all this time, he has proven to be a rarity as his artistic streak has never gotten in the way of his professionalism. Clients are thoroughly attended to and delivery of finished products is fulfilled either earlier or on time. For women who lead fast-paced lives, his work ethic is a blessing.
As designs go, Divino is known for his clean lines and his love for subdued detail. “I get my inspiration from books, movies and interesting people that I meet in my work,” Divino shares. “I embrace the old principles of design: hard work and an eye for detail and quality. Those two are the elements of success. There are no shortcuts.”
