Mike Defensor to face trafficking complaint over Pasig KTV bar raid
MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said it is set to file a human trafficking complaint against former lawmaker Mike Defensor in connection with a KTV bar in Pasig City that was previously raided over alleged sexual exploitation activities.
The bureau will file the complaint before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, June 26, according to NBI Director Melvin Matibag.
“Upon studying the documents, including the floor plans of the Clevepoint square…lumalabas talaga na si Mike Defensor ay part ng human trafficking na nangyayari dito,” Matibag said.
(Upon studying the documents, including the floor plans of Clevepoint Square…it really appears that Mike Defensor is involved in the human trafficking happening here.)
Matibag said investigators suspect the former lawmaker knew about the alleged trafficking activities occurring within the premises.
He also pointed to the building’s floor plan, which allegedly showed violations of the National Building Code.
According to the NBI chief, Defensor allegedly knew about and allowed structural alterations that aided the suspected trafficking operation, such as the construction of private rooms, hidden staircases and concealed doors.
Defensor has previously denied the allegations.
Prior to this, the NBI on April 24 had already initiated legal proceedings against the former lawmaker’s wife, Julie Rose Defensor, and son, Miguel Gabriel Defensor, in connection with the same case.
The former lawmaker is also facing criminal charges alongside 18 alleged former Marines and lawyer Levito Baligod over public accusations against several current and former government officials.
Defensor has also been a critic of the government and has expressed support for former lawmaker Zaldy Co, who is facing corruption-related charges in the Philippines.
