Solomon backs out of PVL draft

MANILA, Philippines — The long wait for Alyssa Solomon’s Premier Volleyball League debut has been extended to at least to another year.
This was because Solomon withdrew from the PVL Rookie Draft Sunday and decided to rejoin the Alas Pilipinas team seeing action in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup while waiting for opportunities abroad.
The Japanese league veteran would have been the consensus No. 1 pick if she had stayed in the annual rites set Wednesday at the Novotel.
While it was good news for the national team, it was bad for Galeries Tower, which owns the top pick that it would have exercised on Solomon had she not changed her mind.
Solomon teased fans by attending the first of the two day Draft Combine at Gameville in Mandaluyong where she showed her true worth.
It was just not meant to be.
The 6-foot-1 opposite hitter is expected to go to Candon to join Alas practice.
The Filipinas are preparing for the AVC Volleyball Cup slated June 6-14 in the Ilocos Sur city.
Interestingly, Solomon will train with a squad that already has two players named Alyssas — Valdez and Eroa.
But she should be a welcome addition being the only part of the same Alas side that ended up runner-up in this same tournament last year.
