MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released P1.64 billion for the performance-based bonuses of the Philippine Army.

The amount covers bonuses for 110,688 qualified Army personnel, the DBM said Wednesday.

“Our soldiers dedicate their lives to defending peace and protecting our people. This release underlines our commitment to recognize and reward our men and women in uniform who fulfill their duties with excellence,” Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said in a statement.

The bonuses are equal to 45.5% of an employee’s monthly basic salary as of December 2023.

To qualify, Army personnel at the First, Second and Third Levels must have earned at least a “Very Satisfactory” rating under the Civil Service Commission-approved Strategic Performance and Management System.

Funding will come from the 2025 General Appropriations Act.

The DBM told Philstar.com that the bonuses are not delayed, but follow a system where employees’ performance is assessed the year after.

In this case, the 2023 performance year was evaluated in 2024. Appeals are allowed following the evaluation, the agency added.

The Palace welcomed the release, describing it as a gesture of gratitude to the armed forces.

“Batid ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang husay at sakripisyo ng mga sundalo sa pagganap sa kanilang tungkulin bilang mga tagapagtanggol ng kalayaan at soberanya ng Pilipinas kaya’t nararapat lang na masuklian ang kagitingan ng ating mga kasundaluhan,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said. (President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. acknowledges the sacrifice of our soldiers in defending the country’s freedom and sovereignty, so it is only right to reward their bravery.)
