MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has released a list of holidays for next year through a proclamation that enumerates at least nine long weekends and declares the anniversary of the 1986 EDSA Revolution that deposed President Marcos’ late father and namesake as a special working day.

Under Proclamation 1006 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of Marcos on Sept. 3, the regular holidays for 2026 include New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), Maundy Thursday (April 2), Good Friday (April 3), Araw ng Kagitingan (April 9), Labor Day (May 1) and Independence Day (June 12).

Other regular holidays are National Heroes Day (Aug. 31), which is celebrated every last Monday of August; Bonifacio Day (Nov. 30), Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and Rizal Day (Dec. 30).

The special non-working days for next year are Ninoy Aquino Day (Aug. 21), All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1), Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary (Dec. 8) and the last day of the year (Dec. 31).

The anniversary of the historic EDSA people power revolution on Feb. 25 was again declared a special working day.

Malacañang also declared four additional special non-working days for 2026: Lunar New Year (Feb. 17), Black Saturday (April 4), All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2) and Christmas Eve (Dec. 24).

The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha will be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos will recommend to the President the actual dates on which these holidays will fall.

There are at least nine long weekends next year, namely the last three days of Holy Week (April 2-4); Labor Day, Independence Day, Ninoy Aquino Day and Christmas Day, all of which will fall on Friday; National Heroes Day, All Souls’ Day and Bonifacio Day, all of which will fall on Monday; and the last day of the year, which will fall on a Thursday and will precede New Year’s day.
