MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City police officer who was relieved from duty after stopping traffic for a “very important person” has been reinstated to his post on Mayor Joy Belmonte’s request.

In a statement yesterday, Belmonte expressed gratitude to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan for reinstating Executive M/Sgt. Verdo Pantollano.

“I felt that an injustice was committed against Pantollano when he was relieved for simply doing his job,” Belmonte said.

The QCPD has yet to inform the local government of the identity of the supposed VIP.

Belmonte said the QCPD did not coordinate with them when it stopped traffic along Commonwealth Avenue.

In a video posted on social media, it was claimed that the VIP was Vice President Sara Duterte, but her office had issued a denial.
