MANILA, Philippines — Manila mayor and presidential aspirant Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said he will give the Department of Information and Communications Technology more teeth to address the proliferation of pornographic materials in the country if he wins in the May polls.

In an interview with television host Boy Abunda, Moreno said he will make social media sites responsible for allowing improper behavior on their platforms.

“Technically, I’ll block their IP address. I’ll make DICT a powerful agency to go after these corporations, to go after these websites,” he said, adding he will also reach out to digital wallet companies and banks.

For Domagoso, a former actor known for his sexy roles, pornographic materials can “destroy a nation.”

The presidential candidate also said that social media platforms must require users to have their accounts verified. He threatened that he will block their IP addresses if they do not comply.

Asked if this policy will anger people, Domagoso responded: “Well, this is not Mr. and Mrs. Congeniality. Leadership is all about protecting your people.”

Vice President Leni Robredo earlier said that social media sites should be penalized for tolerating pornography and false information on their platform.

Another presidential aspirant Panfilo Lacson said an agency that focuses on anti-pornography is needed.
