MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) said on Wednesday that all public schools now have annual access to Adobe Creative Cloud, as the agency ramps up efforts to improve digital literacy among teachers and students.

Adobe Creative Cloud is a collection of Adobe desktop software and mobile applications.

DepEd said that it had partnered with the Adobe company to procure around 108,000 of the creative licenses for its schools.

Learners and teachers can now access the array of digital tools through Adobe IDs linked with their respective school email addresses.

For DepEd Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua, the agency wants students to use industry-standard software so that they can have better opportunities of securing a job.

"We are now in the creative development era. Anyone can be a content creator due to the simplification and adaptability of existing mobile devices where learning and design can blend as one," he said.

Meanwhile, DepEd Information and Communications Technology Service head Mark Sy believes that the country cannot have competitive graduates who can contribute to nation-building if they do not have access to these digital tools.

The DepEd earlier pushed for the "progressive" expansion of limited face-to-face classes in areas with low alert levels- a proposal which President Rodrigo Duterte cleared.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has also suggested the expansion of in-person classes to begin no earlier than the first week of February.

Last year, a United Nation Children's Fund (UNICEF) official identified the Philippines as one of the two countries in the world where schools have remained shut due to the public health emergency.

In a separate report released in November 2021, UNICEF reported that the Philippines is one of the four countries which scored the highest in terms of preparedness to deliver distance learning, but noted that Filipino children from the poorest of households still did not have access to tools required for remote learning.
