BAGUIO CITY , Philippines — The country’s leading newspaper was awarded “Most Supportive Newspaper” by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which celebrated its 70th founding anniversary yesterday.

The Philippine STAR received the “PANATA Ulat sa Bayan Award” for being an essential partner of the DSWD in the dissemination of truthful information critical to nation building.

The DSWD marked its seventh decade with the theme, “DSWD@70: Kabalikat ng Mahihirap sa Panahon ng Pandemya,” in a month-long celebration focusing on recognizing the invaluable service of DSWD personnel, partners like The STAR, beneficiaries and stakeholders who contributed toward the improvement of department operations, especially during the ongoing pandemic.

Yesterday, the DSWD anniversary celebration program on awards and incentives for service excellence (PRAISE) cited officials and employees for their outstanding contributions to the improvement of government operations and the conferment of loyalty awards on employees and officials who have rendered 10 years or more of faithful government service.

A photo exhibit featuring the social welfare department’s significant milestone programs that uplifted the well-being of poor Filipinos was set up at the DSWD’s main building lobby, highlighting the comprehensive and integrated delivery of social services (CIDSS) which became the basis for the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan (Kalahi-CIDSS); the Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran Project now known as the Sustainable Livelihood Program; National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction or the Listahanan; the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program; Supplementary Feeding Program; Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens Program; Bangsamoro Umpungan sa Nutrisyon; Lingap at Gabay Para sa May Sakit, and the Yakap Bayan Program which provides holistic interventions to assist persons recovering from drugs.
