COVID-19 cases reach 339,341

MANILA, Philippines — The number of confirmed coronavirus disease cases nationwide yesterday jumped to 339,341 with the addition of 2,502 new cases, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

At the same time, the DOH reported that the number of COVID survivors also rose to 293,075 with the addition of 17,057 new recoveries. The total number of active cases is at 39,945, of which 83 percent are mild.

Of the 2,502 newly reported cases, the DOH said 84 percent or 2,106 occurred within the past 14 days. The National Capital Region (NCR) accounted for 31 percent of the new cases.

With the addition of 83 fatalities, COVID-related deaths nationwide had reached 6,321. Most or 29 percent of the newly recorded deaths occurred this month while 28 percent occurred in August and 25 percent in September.

Nearly half or 39 of the new deaths came from NCR, 20 percent from Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) and 12 percent from Western Visayas.

The DOH said over 3.8 million people have been tested for COVID-19.
