MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) expects to complete possibly by next week the distribution of compensation for healthcare workers who got infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while on duty.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III and DOH Undersecretary Roger Tong-an have personally delivered checks amounting to P1 million each to the families of 29 of the 32 frontliners who succumbed to the virus.

The remaining three checks were set for distribution yesterday, she said at a briefing.

Vergeire maintained that checks each amounting to P100,000 for health workers who got infected severely with COVID-19 would be distributed in the coming days.

“The checks are already prepared and maybe in the coming week, we will be able to give them the compensation,” she added.

The provision of the compensation is provided for under the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act.
