PNP-IAS exec slain in Cebu gun attack

MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) was killed in a gun attack in Cebu City on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Joie Yape Jr., 49, was walking with his wife along Molave street  in Barangay Kamputhaw on their way to a mall when motorcycle-riding men shot him several times.

Yape was declared dead on arrival at the Perpetual Succor Hospital.

Three bullet shells for a caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the scene. 

Yape, who  was assigned at the PNP-IAS headquarters at Camp Crame, had just attended an administrative hearing when the shooting occurred.

Brig. Gen. Val de Leon, Central Visayas police director, condemned the killing, which he described as a “dastardly act.”

“This is unacceptable. I’m ordering the city police office to thoroughly investigate, identify and arrest the perpetrators,” De Leon said
