MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Liwayway (Lingling)—which slightly intensified before dawn—may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility Thursday evening.
Weather forecasters said “Liwayway” may exit the country’s jurisdiction between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. if the typhoon maintains its speed.
“Liwayway” was last spotted 505 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes. It now packs maximum sustained winds of 155 km per hour from the previous 140 kph and gusts of up to 190 kph from the previous 170 kph.
It is crawling north at the pace of 10 kph.
“Liwayway” has no direct effect on any part of the country it will continue to boost the southwest monsoon, which will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area being monitored by PAGASA was last seen 915 km east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur—inside the PAR.
The trough or extension of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over CARAGA, Northern Mindanao and Davao region.
Residents of Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
