MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area east of Mindanao entered the Philippine are of responsibility Thursday dawn, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The weather disturbance entered the country’s jurisdiction at 2 a.m.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located 955 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The trough or extension of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms to Visayas and Mindanao.

But it has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone before Christmas, PAGASA said.

Residents in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and Bicol, and provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.

Meanwhile, isolated rains will affect Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

During last year’s holidays, at least 300 were killed when back-to-back storms Urduja and Vinta pummelled Visayas and Mindanao, respectively. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
