MANILA, Philippines — Even if he tested negative for drug use, it does not mean he is not involved in illegal drugs.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde made the statement yesterday in referring to Nicanor Faeldon Jr., the son and namesake of Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon.
“Most suspects have tested negative for drug use, but many of them, as it turns out, are involved in selling them,” Albayalde said.
The younger Faeldon was arrested along with three others at a suspected drug den in Naga City on Friday.
Bicol regional police director Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal said police have filed charges against the younger Faeldon for maintaining a drug den in violation of Section 6 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
Another suspect, Russel Lanuzo, was charged for possession and use of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, while Manuel Niebres and Allan
Valdez were charged for drug use and visiting a drug den.
Albayalde said the younger Faeldon is being treated like any drug suspect and is not receiving any special treatment despite being the son a ranking government official.
“No special treatment whatsoever,” he stressed.
Albayalde lauded the elder Faeldon for not seeking special favors for his son.
“I think very clear and that Faeldon said if his son committed a violation of the law, he will never tolerate it. That’s a good assurance already,” Albayalde said.
