MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Man-yi”, locally named “Tomas”, is expected to re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Meno Mendoza said as of 3 a.m., Tomas was almost stationary but it is expected to once again enter PAR within the day. Tomas exited PAR on Saturday.

At 3 a.m., the typhoon’s eye was located 1,525 kilometers east of Appari, Cagayan.

It contains maximum sustained winds of 145 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.

Meanwhile, the state bureau said northeast monsoon or amihan continue to rule northern Luzon.

Because of this Cagayan Valley is expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms while the Cordillera Region is forecast to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Mendoza said fair weather is expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. The area may also experience isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Both Visayas and Mindanao are also warned of isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA earlier warned the public that due to surge of the northeast monsoon, “sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Visayas due to rough to very rough seas.” —Rosette Adel
