Villar still richest senator, Trillanes poorest

MANILA, Philippines — For the fourth consecutive year, Sen. Cynthia Villar turned out as the wealthiest member of the Senate based on her 2017 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.

Villar, whose family is engaged in real estate and retail businesses, declared a net worth of P3.611 billion with no liability at the end of 2017.

Her net worth slightly grew from her P3.606-billion in 2016.

Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who has built a career in professional boxing, emerged as the second richest senator with a net worth of P2.946 billion by the end of last year.

Pacquiao's net worth shrunk from his reported P3.072 billion in 2016. His liabilities from various bank loans amount to around P129.778 million.

On the other hand, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV remains the "poorest" senator with a reported net worth of P6.872 million by the end of 2017.

Trillanes' net worth slightly grew from the previous year's P6.5 million.

Holding Salary Grade 31, the senators' pay is set to increase from P198,169 to P223,590 as part of the third tranche of former President Benigno Aquino III's Executive Order 201 which modified the salary schedule for government personnel.? — Patricia Lourdes Viray
